The international language assistant programme for students, secondary schools (Mittelschule) and vocational high schools (Berufsmaturitätsschule).

In foreign language teaching, practice is paramount. The language assistant programme enables Swiss students and graduates to spend one year attending a school in another country, teaching their mother tongue.
In so doing, as well as becoming familiar with a different schooling system, participants also develop their intercultural competencies as well as the language skills of their pupils.
The language assistant programme is a two-way system: Swiss secondary and vocational high schools can recruit language assistants from abroad.

Who is eligible?

• Students or graduates in German, English, French, Italian and Spanish language and literature.
• Students specialising in German (DaF), English (EFL), French (FLE), Italian or Spanish as a foreign language;
• Students or graduates from other disciplines, preferably with German, English or French language or literature as a minor subject.
• Secondary Level II schools (vocational high schools and secondary schools) in Switzerland can employ a language assistant.
